Mr Perry I Presume Starring Lee Perry As The Upsetter

A new collection of Lee Perry productions on CD,It ranges from remixes of classics to obscure songs never properly released.

Mr. Perry I presume kicks off with the over looked 12’ version of George Faiths ‘Don’t be afraid’. Left off the classic ‘Super 8’ LP that George Faith recorded at the Black Ark. It’s slightly rougher around the edges than most of the material on that album. There’s Perry returning to ‘Words’ – that is also featured in accapella style.

But it’s best to let the tracks speak of a creative mind in full flow. The album comes with an unusual cover photo that was taken by the actress Nathalie Delon (then partner of actor Alain Delon) who was on a visit to the Black Ark studios in the mid 1970s.

The sleeve notes by Jeremy Collingwood focus on the UK sound system scene that Perry had become such an integral part of. His trips to the UK were frequent and he was amongst the small group of Jamaican producers that pioneered the development of Jamaican music in the UK.

These trips were both profitable (cutting dub plates) and useful for picking up musical ideas to take back to Jamaica. Most of the material on Mr. Perry I presume is previously unreleased. An excellent addition to the previous Lee Perry albums on Pressure Sounds. As we continue to plug the gaps of one of the most innovative producers in popular music.

Tracklist:

1.George Faith - Don't be afraid (12'mix) 05:42

2.The Gatherers - Words (previously unreleased acapella mix) 02:04

3.Lee Perry & The Upsetters - Jah I (dub plate mix) 03:34

King Size Reggae (Expanded Version) (2022) Flac

By the dawn of the Seventies, Leslie Kong’s Beverley’s Records was firmly established as Jamaica’s premier record label, having secured a series of major international hits by some of the island’s finest talents.

Having secured rights to Kong’s output the previous year, London-based reggae giant, Trojan Records, had wasted little time showcasing the Kingston-based producer’s work on a series of 7” singles and albums.
Among the LPs to see issue in 1970 were two ‘various artist’ compilations: the recently reissued “Hot Shots Of Reggae” and the equally sought-after “King Size Reggae”.
Available on CD for the first time ever, the latter features some of the finest Jamaican recordings of the period, with the track-listing bolstered by no less than 19 Leslie Kong-produced bonus tracks, many of which appear on CD for the first time.
A perfect companion to the “Hot Shots Of Reggae” CD, or simply a superb stand-alone collection in its own right, this long overdue release is an essential purchase for fans seeking the best in classic reggae sounds.

Bunny Lee - AGRO SOUNDS -101 ORANGE STREET

"Countless incredible records were made in Kingston between 1968 and 1971 that has never been able to lose the stigma of being described as ‘Skinhead Reggae’ but in Jamaica the term never meant anything. However Bunny Lee’s Aggro Sound’s both at home and away. They were tougher then tough, rougher then rough, kicked like a ‘bovver’ boot and were sharper then a razor cut trim. Raw, pure and undiluted every time...some even troubled the UK national charts.. To say the man and his music dominated at the time would be a complete understatement. ‘Striker’ was everywhere...travelling between Kingston, where he opened his Agro Sounds record shop at 101 Orange Street and London where he set up his Unity label with the Palmer Brothers for the exclusive release of his productions and his Jackpot subsidiaries with both Trojan and Pama records. Ubiquitous does not start to come into it. We sincerely hope that this compilation helps to point you in the direction of some of the best music from this often overlooked period from one of the greatest producers EVER! ‘The Aggro Man’ himself Bunny Lee."

Hot Bomb - (A Reggae Compendium)

An interesting collection of rare reggae 45s built around rhythms produced by Bunny Lee between 1971 and 1974, Hot Bomb! (the title comes from the track by toaster I-Roy that leads off the set) has a wonderfully ragged feel to it, highlighted by Big Joe, Augustus Pablo, and King Tubby's "Rasta Train," the Cables' beautiful "Be Wise," and I-Roy's spunky "Whisky Chest," showing once again the astounding wealth and range of material that issued from Jamaica in the early '70s.
